What kind of hairline do you have? Learn more about the 10 types of hairlines, along with celebrity examples.
Just like your eye color, or body frame, your hairline is unique and characteristic to you.
However, there are a few types of hairlines that are common and seen in both men and women.
Our hairline is largely determined by our genetics but it often changes as we age.
In this article, we’ll go over 10 of the most common types of hairlines. See if you can spot your own.
The pattern in which your hair grows at the edge of your hair is considered the hairline. Various types of hairlines are determined by genetics, hormones, diet, age, and lifestyle habits.
While hairlines are largely due to genetics, hairlines are not set in stone. In other words, you may not have the same hairline for life.
For instance, you may have a straight-lined hairline for most of your life, but this hairline pattern can recede as you get older. Or your hairline might temporarily change after you’ve given birth to a child due to sudden hormonal changes.

There is no one ‘right’ type of hairline. They are unique to us just as our hand shape, or eye color. They are, however, very distinctive.
Here are 10 common types of hairlines -- see if you can spot your own.
Hairlines that begin near the eyebrows are considered a low type of hairline. This will give the appearance of a small, or short forehead.
Celebrities with this hairline type:
Zayn Malik, Zendaya, Fergie.
A middle hairline falls between a low and high hairline. This type of hairline falls in the middle of the forehead and is considered a neutral or average hairline. This is considered the most common hairline.
Celebrities with this hairline type:
Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Zac Efron.
A high hairline falls well above the eyebrows giving the appearance of a full forehead. This type of hairline begins high up towards the crown of the head. This could be genetic or may be related to hair loss.
Celebrities with this hairline type:
Angelina Jolie, Tyra Banks, Rihanna, Zoe Saldana.
Among the most distinctive, a Widow’s peak hairline forms a V pattern. There is an apex point in the center of the forehead, then that fades backward along the hairline. This type of hairline has higher sides and a lower midpoint
Celebrities with this hairline type:
Brooke Shields, Kourtney Kardashian.
The triangle hairline is the opposite of the Widow’s peak in that instead of the sides fading backward, they are the most forward with the midpoint being the furthest back.
Celebrities with this hairline type:
Selma Blair.
This is a very common hairline type in men. A receding or M-shaped hairline has some degree of hair loss involved. With an M-shaped hairline, the sides near the temple recede with the midpoint staying put. This creates an M-shape.

A straight hairline has no curve to it but rather grows in a blunt line above the forehead. The sides are normally quite vertical giving the straight hairline a more rectangular look. There is angular definition to both the top and the sides.
Celebrities with this hairline type:
Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston.
Like most things, this type of hairline isn’t uniform or symmetrical. These types of hairlines can be wavy and vary from one side to the other.

Similar to the uneven hairline, cowlick hairlines grow in an
unsymmetrical way but they create a swirl-like pattern. This can occur anywhere on the scalp, but it may occur at the hairline which may cause hairs to naturally grow in a few directions.
