So, our most common topical Finasteride is going to be combined with Minoxidil and also Tretinoin.
And, so, when you add Minoxidil to the Finasteride, you get that hair-boosting effect just like you would with an over-the-counter Minoxidil, as well as getting the effect of the DHT-blocking agent Finasteride at the same time directly onto the scalp.
The other ingredient that’s important to know is Tretinoin, and Tretinoin works like a penetrating agent and it also works like a booster. It actually makes your skin more responsive to Minoxidil.
So, you’re going to get a more powerful effect from Minoxidil when you combine it with Tretinoin, than just Minoxidil alone, let’s say, in an over-the-counter product.
The main reason why Tretinoin works in this way is that for some folks, they have a low sulfotransferase activity. And, that’s an enzyme that converts the regular Minoxidil that comes out of a bottle into Minoxidil Sulfate in the skin.
And, so if your body is low in sulfotransferase activity, you might not get a great response from Minoxidil. But, if you use Tretinoin with it, you are going to boost that Minoxidil effect. It really ramps up that sulfotransferase activity so you get more of that active compound in the skin working on the hair
